- 2004 Stretching Our Tents
2004 Stretching Our Tents Youth Ministry Outreach Ministry Movements The Youth Ministry of PLMC exists to reach and disciple all youths and their oikos so that they will become GreatCommission disciples for Jesus! The Great Commission of Jesus calls us to disciple the nations and teach them to obey everything He has commanded. We can do that when we put discipling of our youths as our top priority! We can do that only when we set our focus to reach all youths in our nation. “Since my youth, O God, you have taught me, and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds. Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, O God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your might to all who are to come.” Ps 71:17,18 Our youths are a blessed lot. We are blessed that they are talented, have the opportunity to excel in education, and come from good families in the church. Indeed we are a blessed family! But if the blessings only end at where we are, we can be sure these blessings will dry up! Only as we continue to pour out God's blessings to the lost, will He give us more! We need to reach out and in reaching out, we will grow! “Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes. For you will spread to the right and to the left;" Isaiah 54:2 – 3a. We have about 350 youths attending the Youth Service every Sunday. When every youth takes upon himself the task to reach out to another and brings him back to church to be discipled by the END of this YEAR, we will have 700 young people at our Youth Service! Paya Lebar Methodist Girls' Secondary School and many government schools are open ground! The harvest is plentiful! Performing Arts, Sports, Character Development, and the Internet, are just some of the venues that we can capitalize to reach out to young people! Already, together with the Chaplains of Paya Lebar Methodist Girls' Secondary School, our youths are part of a basketball clinic for the students there. We hope to use Performing Arts as the next vehicle to mobilize our youths to reach the unreached youths in the schools. The possibilities just go on... We need to prepare ourselves for God's move when His people obey! Let us be ready for the harvest!! You may also like Share Testimony 2004 Inaugural Youth Service 2018 Your Work Matters Youth Service

- 2015 His Media Ministry
2015 His Media Ministry Soh Fong Jin The tossing of Yusheng or 'Lo Hei' is a traditional feature among Singaporeans during Chinese New Year. What we call the "Lo Hei Fellowship" has also become an annual event for the His Media team as we come together with our family members, give thanks to our wonderful Lord and fellowship as an inclusive His Media family over a BBQ dinner. We remain thankful to our Lord and provider - He never fails to provide for us. When we faced a shortage of members for varied reasons, He promptly provided us with new and committed members. When we are tasked to look at existing system renewal, we are blessed with the required talent to help in the review. When any member faced difficulties, we prayed for that member through our prayer net and our Lord heard and acted on our prayers. Our Lo Hei Fellowship was held on the 7th of March this year and PIC graced our event. The entire atmosphere was fun-filled, loaded with smiles and laughter. It was a great time to bond as a family. As we tossed the Yusheng, we shouted various blessings from the scriptures to remind ourselves to stir our hearts to serve him with purpose and meaning. Besides the sumptuous dinner, we played games that fostered greater interaction. It was also a great opportunity to not only get to know one another but also their family members. There was even a quiz that focused on key events and personalities in PLMC. Another highlight was how the event was captured from a drone flown by one of our members! Looking down, it snapped all members of diverse talents coming together, serving as one. This reminded us of 1 Cor 12:6 “There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and everyone it is the same God at work.” We celebrate unity and are truly blessed as ONE in the bond of love! All praise and glory to Him! You may also like Share Testimony Men's Ministry Outreach His Media
- 1984 WSCS Retreat at Penang
1984 WSCS Retreat at Penang Mrs Khoo Bee Guat President of WSCS Some families of the WCSC joined by a family from Trinity and Fairfield WSCS made a trip to the Methodist Centre at Penang Hill for five days from 1st September. The ages ranged from five years to seventy-five years. Physically there were the strong young ones and the "weak-kneed” seniors, but everyone was in perfect spirits. Jehovah Jireh! The Lord was truly our Provider and still is! We went in full faith with Jesus as our leader. We arrived safely but old hearts and weak-knees were taken aback at the rough and rugged way down to the Centre. He provided us with a strong and encouraging person in Major Robson. And with the young ones, they carried all the burdens on their shoulders down to the Centre. A beautiful manifestation of the spirit of care and concern. Living by faith was most exciting, especially when a 'breakdown' confronted us. We got together to pray and claimed His provisions. That night and on subsequent days we had hearty breakfasts and sumptuous dinners. The Spirit of the Lord was truly upon us. We were one big family united in the Lord of Love and Christian Fellowship. Morning and evening we blessed Him with praises and thanksgiving. The couples, Mr and Mrs Han and Mr and Mrs Kang, shared in the devotions. Major Robson led us in the singing. Dr and Mrs Seevaratham came and gave us a dynamic message on 'Maturity in Christian Living'. The view of Penang from the hills was beautiful and we could not refrain from declaring the glory of the Lord for the glorious sunrise, the picturesque sunset, the vastness of the sea and the stretch of golden sand. Most of all we thank God for the fine weather all through the holiday. It was a very enjoyable holiday. The Lord has truly been our keeper, helper, protector and our guardian as promised in Ps 121:1-8. Him be all praise and glory! - 1989 Help Your Sunday School
1989 Help Your Sunday School Margaret Chan Good news! The students' enrolment has increased. In fact, the Sunday School students have doubled in these three years. It is indeed a great encouragement to the teachers as they watch their classes growing. All Eyes on Teacher. Singing Praises. But, the increase in attendance creates a new, albeit a happy, problem-SPACE! There just isn't enough rooms to accomodate all the students. Hence, the idea of an 11 am Sunday School was mooted. Surveys were conducted and finally, on 8th January 1989, the 11 am Sunday School (Kindergarten Dept) took off. 22 children, ranging from 2 to 6 years old, turned up. The group is separated into two classes — Nursery and Kindergarten. There are two teachers to each class. Due to staff constraints, the Junior and Senior Departments could not be included. Therefore we need more teachers. We appeal to members who * want to serve God * enjoy teaching and learning * enjoy working with children We hope that those who are available and willing, to seriously consider and pray about committing themselves to the Sunday School ministry. Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." - A Vision Fulfilled (1990)
A Vision Fulfilled (1990) An interview with the Rev Dr Kang Ho Soon Koh Buck Song "And Jesus said to them, 'Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." - Matthew 4:19 On New Year's Eve 1979, the Rev Dr Kang Ho Soon preached his first sermon in Paya Lebar Methodist Church. Taking Genesis 12:1-9 and Matthew 4:18-22 as his texts, he exhorted the small congregation to "go forward”. Now, 10 years later, Pastor Kang says with a deep sense of fulfilment: "We have certainly moved forward." He recalls that the church was at a low point in 1980. The church was in the red, the building was run down and there was an ongoing dispute with the adjacent school for the piece of land where the Covenant Centre now stands. With the grace of God, membership grew steadily to the figure of more than 1,000 at present, church finances improved to a healthy surplus, the dispute was amicably settled and relations with the relocated school are better than ever. But the most significant achievement in Pastor Kang's view was the building of the new sanctuary. "A physical project can do wonders to the spirit of man”, he says, the memory clearly bringing fond thoughts to him. More than any other project, the need to raise about $1.5 million brought the church leaders together to work as one, as they had to meet, discuss and pray every week, to crack their heads as to how to meet the target. The whole congregation chipped in. In Genesis, God called upon Abraham to look at the stars to have faith in the future, as He would provide. "Just look at the stars” became a common greeting among the church leaders at that time, as they sought to place their faith and the future in God's hands. The new sanctuary, dedicated on Christmas Day 1982, has become for Pastor Kang a "symbol of the spirit of the people”, reminding them that with the grace of God they are able to do things beyond their imagination. His foremost priority has always been to build up the people. Focusing his energies on making the Sunday worship experience one that would uplift the people, he preached on as many as 50 Sundays in his first year. He made the Beacon a monthly bulletin – previously it was a bimonthly - and introduced a mailing service to reach out to those who missed Sun day services. His hope is that the people will "remember that they should become channels of blessings, that their religious experience is never an end in itself but to bless others.” The building of the Covenant centre in 1987 — with its wide range of services from nursery to qigong — serves this aim of sharing God's blessings with the community beyond. Now, with the church itself in pretty good shape all-round, there is only one direction to look – out. Pastor Kang's prayer is that the people will find new challenges and continue to go forward, as he called them to do on New Year's Eve, 1979. - WSCS | 2016 WSCS 80th Anniversary
2016 WSCS 80th Anniversary WSCS Celebrating 80 Years of God's Faithfulness in PLMC Mrs Choo Lai Eng Vice President, PLMC WSCS (2014 - 2016) PLMC WSCS celebrated her 80th Anniversary on Saturday, 13 August 2016 with a Thanksgiving Service after the AGM followed by a sumptuous dinner. Mrs. Chew Hock Hin, wife of our first Pastor, started WSCS in PLMC in 1936. Sewing classes were held for the ladies. The ladies ushered in church, sang in choirs, did flower arrangements, prepared Sacraments, and sewed the lectern drapes and the choir gowns. Mrs Chew taught the ladies processes of the ministry's business and took care of their spiritual health. During the Thanksgiving Service, Mrs Nancy Chua gave us a glimpse into the work of the WSCS in the early days and we were very encouraged by the passion the ladies had for the ministry, and the great lengths they went to to get to church for WSCS weekly meetings. You may also like Share Testimony 2019 WSCS Visit to Homebound GYM WSCS Mrs Doris Wong, the longest-serving WSCS leader, shared how she walked into her first WSCS meeting without knowing anyone and about the warmth of the ladies that spurred her on till today! Like Doris, Mrs Sally Seow shared how the work of WSCS has evolved over time and about God's equipping and sustaining her while she served. We thank God for His faithfulness in sustaining the ministry of WSCS to this day. The relevance of WSCS in PLMC was questioned at one time. We are ever grateful to God for the support of the leaders in TRAC and General Conference WSCS during those trying times. We are also appreciative of the support of the LCEC during that time. We thank God for the wisdom bestowed upon our fore-mothers who saw to it that women were given the opportunity to serve in the church and that a seat was kept in the leadership of the church, providing the rich legacy left for us. We thank God that He has continuously raised up ladies to serve as leaders in the ministry and that younger women are coming forward to serve in the Executive Committee. God has been very good to the WSCS in PLMC. He has continuously blessed our ladies who in turn give very generously to our Blessing Bags to fund our work. We thank God for supportive Pastors and Leaders, for the church staff for their clerical support. Most importantly, we thank our women who believe in our ministry. Truly He is Faithful and we know we can depend on Him to see us through the next 80 years of serving His precious daughters. To God be the Glory! - 1991 Our New Peranakan Service
1991 Our New Peranakan Service An outreach to Peranakans & those who understand the Malay/Indonesian/Peranakan languages in our neighbourhood We have just embarked on a new Peranakan Worship Service. It is held every Saturday at 4 p.m in the Lower Hall. Its first inception on 2 February 1991 was devoid of much publicity and fanfare, but the presence of our Senior Pastor, Rev Daniel Tan, was opportune. It was also a delight to have Mr & Mrs Annuar Siregar grace the occasion with their lovely rendition - he with his violin, and she on the piano - of two nostalgic pieces. Amidst the "teething problems" , where nothing seemed to "fall in place" and the tangle of wires for the mike, loudspeaker and the overhead projector, the occasion was made joyous with our "in-group" singers (comprising of mostly the not-so-young ladies & gentlemen) singing with gusto a number of Hymns of Praise and to welcome the congregation to our new venue. Our service presently comprises about 40 to 60 of mostly elderly Peranakan worshippers from the Marine Parade/East Coast area, and a good number from our Sunday Peranakan Service. You may liken us to the "Last Of The Mohicans" , an "endangered species requiring special treatment and protection" . We loathe to say "die" , for in our faith in God, we have "life" . But die we must, and fade into oblivion, if we do not reach out to those who only speak or understand Malay/Peranakan/Indonesian, in our neighbourhood, to come to this new Service which has a freer expression of worship and congregation participation with testimonies. We encourage members of our English-speaking congregation to support us with their attendance, prayers and invitation of those whom they know are mostly likely to appreciate this Peranakan service. Wee Hood Seng, a retiree, is one of PLMC's honorary stewards. You may also like Share Testimony 2002 Peranakan Christmas Celebration 2004 On Family In Christ Peranakan Service

Working alongside Healthserve, the Agape Fellowship provides an oasis of comfort and companionship to Chinese workers who have sustained workplace injuries and are in process of receiving treatment and compensation. As the cell members share the love of Christ through various bonding activities, these injured brothers build friendships and receive a second home in our midst. This also strengthens the faith of those who have found the Lord through the fellowship, allowing the Word of God to take root in their lives. “对于参与这服事有何领受, 为何要继续?” “How do you feel about serving in this ministry? What keeps you going?” “服侍中国受伤客工,让我更加感恩的是,有能力去祝福帮助他人,是何等的蒙福,而且施比受更有有福。看见客工因认识神而生命转变,对未来有盼望和依靠,服侍不是枉然的,若有能力与时间继续事奉,为神而作,何乐而不为呢?” “I am grateful to be blessed to be able to serve the wounded. Seeing the workers lives change, as they live with hope and dependence on God for their future, I know our service is not in vain.” - Eddie 弟兄 You may also like Share Testimony 2017 Holy-communion to Homebound Members 2011 Friends of Jesus Mandarin Service “神让我看到,世上还有许多不幸和可怜的人,需要我们去帮助与关怀!一世人都为自己,现在该是回报主恩,服侍主服侍人的时候!” “God showed me that there are many less fortunate people who need our help and care. After living a self-serving life, it is due time for me to serve the Lord, as my offering.” “What an injured brother needs most is God’s unwavering love and the assurance that he can depend on Him to carry on. Hence, I want to care and pray for them. When they experience the agape love and power, they will be filled with joy. I want to continue sharing the gospel and sharing the word with them so that they will find God and be blessed with this unspeakable joy.” “Many do not know God. Often, they seek help from everywhere, in their own strength, but fail miserably. One’s power is limited but when we come together to sow seeds and plough the field, God’s love is amplified, allowing the helpless to know that help comes from the true God, giving hope and a future to living.” “Man’s limit is God’s beginning. In their weak state, they are presented the chance to know God and accept Him as their personal saviour. This fuelled me to care for them. I have also learnt much from them, that the men have an indomitable spirit, yet care for the home, are long-suffering and tolerant. Being able to serve the Kingdom of God adds to life’s meaning, especially to do the work that most shy away from." - Pei Hua 佩华姐妹 “受伤的客工都需要关怀 ,他们觉得没有人能帮他们 多次与他们交谈,看到他们心情比较开朗知道只要信靠主耶稣必定得到帮助 ,从中我也领受到神伟大的爱。主耶稣赐给了我平安 ,使我愿意继续服待。服待客工最大的喜乐是他们都愿意接受耶稣爱他们会帮助他们。看见他们的生命有盼望,是我最大的动力。” “The injured workers need care. Through my many conversations with them, their common sentiment is that no one can help them. But as I see their countenance being lifted, after knowing that God is their true source of help, I experience God’s almighty love instead. I have the peace to continue serving in this ministry and the joy of witnessing their progress to trust in God is my greatest motivation.” - Bi Ye 碧叶姐妹 “感受到上帝的怜悯和慈爱,而且我们太渺小,领受主赐下的力量传扬主的大爱及大能。是我们的恩典可以成为主的好器皿,被主使用。” “As I receive God’s mercy and love, I see how small we are in comparison. - Ministry to the Visually Impaired | 2015 Honouring My Blind Parents
2015 Honouring My Blind Parents Shawn Tan I never expected to say this, but I am really thankful to God for my parents and all He has given me. I remember that when I was much younger in my primary and early secondary school days, I was resentful and questioned God for giving me parents who are visually handicapped. I felt that it was unfair because God put me in a family that was different from all my other friends' families. This caused me to do things that I feel bad about and am not proud of to this day. I will never forget the times when I dishonoured my parents. I am still embarrassed by my actions. Back in primary and secondary school, there would be parent-teacher meetings at the end of every school semester and I totally hated it. I hated it because I did not want my classmates to know that my parents are blind as I was kind of embarrassed by it. I was also afraid that my friends would make fun of me. I kept persuading my parents not to go and told them that I was doing perfectly fine in school. However, my father still insisted on going. I was very unhappy about it and made such a huge fuss about it. My parents knew the reason for my unreasonable and unusual behaviour, but not once did they reprimand me or stop loving me for it. In fact, they showered more love on me. You may also like Share Testimony 2016 12 Tips to Relate with Visually Impaired Persons Outreach Ministry to the Visually Impaired Things changed as I grew up and grew closer to God. One phrase really impacted me: “Everything happens for a reason, God always has a plan and a reason for it”. I slowly realised how blessed I was to be in this family which I used to be embarrassed and ashamed of. Compared to other kids, I enjoyed the luxury of having dinner everyday with my parents, as their jobs did not require them to work till late at night. I became more independent at a young age because I not only have to take care of myself but also my parents. I learnt how to do the laundry, dishes, and even cook. One of the most important reasons I feel I was born into this family is that God wanted to use this opportunity to make me a more patient, caring, and loving young man who honours his parents for who they are. I am so grateful for being brought up in this family and knowing God cannot be summarised in this short story, I am just really thankful to God for my loving parents and all that He has given and taught me. I will always remember this one line my father said to me. “I may be handicapped, but I promise you I’ll try my very best to give you a life like any other kid, and give you whatever you need” . To this day, he has never broken this promise he had made to me. If I had a chance to turn back time and rewrite my past, I would not change one bit of it. Most importantly, I have learned the value in honouring my my parents in spite of and because of the tough circumstances that God had put me through as a young boy. - 2015 Living Stones
2015 Living Stones Li Jing "There is no fear in love. Perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love." - 1 John 4:18 Mediacorp artist, Mr Rayson Tan, says he used to live in fear and superstition and that God delivered him from bondage by knocking on his heart over and over again. Describing his encounter with God, Mr Tan said he now walks in faith and total freedom. Mr Tan's sharing at the Mandarin Evangelistic Service: From Fear to Faith brought great encouragement as many of us face similar fear and struggles as him. During altar call, more than 25 made the decision to receive Jesus as their savior and some rededicated their lives to the Lord. The service ended in a joyful and grateful atmosphere with everyone blessing each other through a benediction song! To God be the glory!
