2006 Silver Boxes

Our "Silver Boxes" - encouraging everyone to 'light your world.

The Silver Boxes Ministry of PLMC, the new name for the Children Ministry, was unveiled at the Sunday worship services on 13 August 2006. Some children were spotted wearing trendy black T-shirts with the "Silverboxes” logo printed on them. There was an air of expectation in the Sanctuary when the children from Church School gathered at the front of the Sanctuary before the 9.00 am Sanctuary Service and the 11.15 am Celebration. Those who attended the PLMC-sponsored musical, Children's Letters to God, a week earlier on 4 & 5 August 2006 may have guessed at what was brewing in the Children Ministry when the name "Silver Boxes” appeared on the Show tickets, as well as in the souvenir programme.

Launching the new name and identity for the ChildrenMinistry at the Sanctuary services and the Mandarin Service, Rev Barnabas Chong, the pastor in charge overseeing the Ministry, highlighted that the name “Silver Boxes” was chosen as it represents encouragement .  Just as a gift in a silver box, given to someone brings encouragement and joy, the Silver Boxes Ministry is the place where encouragement, friendship and godliness abound.  Even the children and the teachers are “Silver Boxes” for the Lord, encouraging one another and lifting one another out of tough situations.

Why Silver Boxes?

A silver box is a symbol of encouragement. When you give someone a gift wrapped in a silver box, it brings encouragement and joy to that person. The PLMC Children Ministry - Silver Boxes - is the place where encouragement, friendship and godliness abound. Not only do we give away "silver boxes” to encourage others, our children and committed leaders  are ‘silver boxes’ for the Lord. Encouraging people and lifting them up out of tough situations is our passion. Our dream is for every child, by the time they leave Silver Boxes, to become an authentic generous encourager with the encouragement they have first received from the Lord. "Silver Boxes" is a name derived from Florence Littauer and the book is all about encouragement.

What ‘s New?

This update is new! With the new name, there is also a new passion in ministry- ENCOURAGEMENT!

Our ministry basis is taken from 1 Thess.5:11 - “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up…'' The preceding v.10 tells us that Jesus died for us so that we may live together with Him. What this means is we passionately encourage one another and build each other up Because we have been first encouraged by Jesus who died for us to give us eternal life. This new passion, or some may call it - renewed passion, Encouragement they have first received from will affect all that we do, from worship to outreach, from learning together to serving one another, from having fun to how we relate with one another.

We have, for instance, introduced our first encouragement card with a beautiful picture drawn by one of our children and all children have been encouraged to write a note of thanks and encouragement to their parents. Did you get one? Sure hope you did. We are also working on songs for Silver Boxes, organising a retreat. (called the Silver Boxes Build Up) to build up our leaders and volunteers, fine-tuning our 2007 curriculum, etc.
