2001 GYM Beginning
A Newsletter for the Seniors, by the Seniors
Prelude
With God's blessing, Singapore has become prosperous and the standard of living has improved, resulting in people having longer life expectancy. However, the unexpected outcome is that in the later years of their lives, many are retired and lead lonely and empty days. In response to this situation, our church has encouraged the formation of a Senior Fellowship which caters to the needs of this group in 1986. Now, it is thought timely that the Senior Fellowship should start a newsletter in "The Beacon" "The Golden Years", which will focus its attention on the needs of this group of people.

In this first issue of "The Golden Years", we focus on the Methodist Senior Fellowship in Paya Lebar Methodist Church, the changes it had been through and the new things that are happening recently.
The editorial sub-committee welcomes any suggestions or contributions from members of the church which will guide and contribute to the growth of this endeavour. It will be much appreciated if those who have some comments, stories or articles relevant to this group will support this effort and send their Dr N C Tan contributions to Dr N C Tan, care of Miss Teo Soo Hoong of the Church Office.

The Founding of the PLMC Methodist Senior Fellowship
The Methodist Senior Fellowship (MSF) was formed on 31 May 1986. Dr Kang Ho Soon was then pastor of the church. Our first president was Mr Wee Sian Lip. Assistance was sought from the Senior Fellowships of the Wesley Methodist Church, Kampong Kapor Methodist Church, Trinity Methodist Church and Bedok Methodist Church. The MSF Committee met regularly to work on the Constitution and the programme of the Fellowship.
An inaugural meeting was held on 16 August 1986. 153 senior members were approached but only so attended the meeting. At this meeting, Mr Wee Sian Lip read out the Constitution of the Fellowship and this was accepted by the members who were present. This was later accepted by the Local Conference Executive Committee (LCEC) of the Paya Lebar Methodist Church.
