The Heart of a Shepherd 2006

Rev Peter Koh

Acts 20:28 28 Look after yourselves and everyone the Holy Spirit has placed in your care. Be like shepherds to God's church. It is the flock that he bought with the blood of his own Son.

With this verse, the Lord confirmed the calling He had placed in the heart of Rev Peter Koh, our new Pastor-in-charge, to enter the pastoral ministry and to take care of God's sheep, the body of Christ.

The Call

"I first felt the Lord calling me into full-time ministry in 1990, at a session by Dr Gary Gregor. When he shared from 1 John 3:2, the realization that I am now a child of God dawned on me. I sensed the Lord telling me that He was reviewing His plan for my life. I continued to search for a word from the Lord. Then, one day, Dr Joy Silvaratnam prophesied over me and through him, the Lord told me to “stop playing a cat and mouse game, and come and serve Me”.

Another two years of questioning followed, as I pondered over God's call. My wife was then expecting our second child, and we wondered how we would manage if I entered the full-time ministry. But God is good, and He assured me in His Word in Exo 23:25 that He would supply all our needs. With that assurance, I entered Trinity Theological College in 1996.”

Upon his graduation, Rev Koh was posted to Barker Road Methodist Church, where he served for five years, before the Lord called him to PLMC.

A third generation Christian, Rev Koh has strong memories of being “marched” to Kampong Kapor Methodist Church every Sunday by his maternal grandfather when he was a young boy. In the late 70s, he went through a period of deep searching for the Lord. He felt that there was something missing from his spiritual life, as he would sing the words of worship songs, declaring “I love you”, yet did not “see” or “feel” God. Then, in the 1980s, he experienced the baptism and infilling of the Holy Spirit. It happened one night, after he had an angry confrontation with the Lord and fell asleep. The presence of the Lord filled the room, and he received the baptism of the Holy Spirit and the gift of tongues.

Personal vision for PLMC

"To see people move/minister in the resurrection power of the Lord”.

Rev Koh shares that he feels 2006 is a year of deliverance, of people coming to the Lord, and breaking free from their bondages. It is a time for God's people to break out of their mindsets and encounter God.

Going back to basics, Rev Koh will stress on the theme of “Starting with God” as his pulpit focus for the month of January 2006. In line with our theme of “strengthening the stakes”, he will focus on getting right with God as we begin a new year.

Prayer Requests

“Pray for the Lord's wisdom for me as I pastor PLMC, that I will be able to meet the needs of the people. Pray also for grace, and strength to meet the needs of the large "flock” at PLMC.”
