2004 Cell Leaders Dedication

Set Apart to Serve

"Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” (Matt 4:19)

For Esther Loon, this verse always encourages her in her role as a co-leader of a cell group. Although she only joined a cell group in 2003, she decided to answer the Lord's call to serve in this ministry because she did not want to be just a typical Sunday Christian.

Esther was one of the 10 cell leaders and co-leaders who were “set apart” for service in this ministry at the Commissioning Service held on 28 March 2004.

A quiet and gentle lady, Esther is not your typical image of a cell leader. She acknowledges the Lord's guidance in her duties and responsibilities in this role. She feels that “heart knowledge” is more important than “head knowledge” when it comes to leading a cell. She is simply a FAST – faithful, available, submissive, teachable - Christian.

She usually spends one week preparing for cell meetings. Leading a cell group of members who have known the Lord for many years, Esther sees herself as a prayer partner to her members.

“Joining a cell has made me more committed to proclaim Jesus as Lord of my life to pre-believers at home and others meet, e.g. at the market, park,” she said.

She has also learnt how to pray for others and been blessed by the prayers in her cell group.

Esther also feels it is very important to build trustworthy relationships with others and to pray for them to be conscious of the Holy Spirit's renewing of their minds. This is her way of encouraging others to answer God’s call for more “shepherds” to tend to His flock of church members.

She also encourages those who are not yet in cell groups to join one, citing Hebrews 10:24, 25 – “And let us consider how we may spur one another on towards love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another -and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
